The '69 Camaro brought with it one of the widest options of available engines ever offered for one model.
Beginning with the inline six, with twelve choices including the COPO 427 units.
The rarest of the non-COPO offerings was the 375 horsepower 396 cubic inch RPO L89.
A variation of the 375 HP L78, the L89 had the same 11.0:1 compression, forged internals, solid lifter cam, and Holley 4-barrel atop an aluminum intake.
The difference was in the high-flow aluminum heads that afforded an additional 25 HP and saved approximately 75 pounds up front.
These cars were capable of zero-to-sixty in 6.8 seconds and 14.7 quarter-mile times and many of them were bought by drag racers for use in the burgeoning Super Stock classes.
